Peraton provides Intelligence Community (IC) data management support to modernize large-scale repositories, enable advanced dataflow management, ensure compliance, and enhance streaming and analytical data systems. About the Role – Cloud Systems Administrator (Cyber Intelligence Team)

Peraton is seeking an experienced and motivated Cloud Systems Administrator to join the Cyber Intelligence Division in Laurel, MD.

This position is ideal for professionals passionate about cloud infrastructure, Linux system administration, and distributed computing at scale. The selected candidate will manage and secure multi-cluster environments supporting critical national security missions.


Key Responsibilities – What You’ll Do

1. Systems Administration and Infrastructure Management

  • Administer and maintain large-scale distributed systems (60+ nodes per site, across multiple racks).
  • Manage and optimize Linux OS components such as DHCP, DNS, and TFTP.
  • Configure and maintain LDAP-based user authentication systems.

2. Automation, Scripting, and Cloud Operations

  • Script and automate operational workflows using Bash, Python, or Perl.
  • Implement and enhance data storage solutions (e.g., Hadoop, Cassandra, Scality, Swift, Gluster, Lustre, GPFS, or Amazon S3).
  • Utilize Puppet, Ansible, SALT, Docker, and Kubernetes for configuration management and container orchestration.

3. Networking and Security

  • Apply deep understanding of network concepts including VLANs, Layer 2/3 switching, and port bonding.
  • Manage SSH tunneling protocols, SOCKS proxies, and tools like rsync, pdsh, pdcp, and WinSCP.
  • Maintain secure, compliant environments aligned with Department of Defense (DoD) standards.

4. Advanced Cloud and AI/ML Collaboration

  • Leverage expertise in AWS Cloud Architecture, SDKs, and APIs.
  • Collaborate with AI/ML teams and support Large Language Model (LLM) and Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) initiatives for advanced analytics.

Qualifications – What You Need to Succeed

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, or related field.

    • Equivalent experience substitutions:

      • +4 years without degree
      • +2 years with Associate’s degree
  • Minimum 7 years of Systems Administration experience with a strong focus on Linux environments.

Certifications

  • 8570 IAT Level I or higher (Security+ preferred) – must be obtained before starting.

  • One of the following required prior to onboarding:

    • AWS Certified SysOps Administrator — Associate
    • AWS DevOps Engineer — Professional
    • Certified Kubernetes Administrator (CKA)

Clearance

  • Active TS/SCI security clearance with polygraph required.

Compensation Details

  • Target Salary Range: $146,000 – $234,000 (based on experience, education, and role scope).
  • Eligible for discretionary bonuses, shift differentials, and other forms of additional pay.
