Job Description

8byte is seeking a DevOps Engineering Intern to join our dynamic team and kickstart your career in modern DevOps practices. This internship offers hands-on exposure to infrastructure, deployment, and automation workflows in a fast-moving startup environment where you will build strong fundamentals in cloud infrastructure, CI/CD, and site reliability engineering.

As a DevOps Engineering Intern, you will work closely with senior DevOps and engineering teams to support and contribute to real-world production systems. This role is designed for learners who want practical experience rather than designing large systems independently. You will support production systems under guidance and gradually take ownership of well-defined tasks that have real impact on the organization's infrastructure.

This position provides close mentorship from experienced DevOps and engineering leaders, exposure to modern cloud, automation, and reliability practices, and an opportunity for full-time conversion based on performance. You will collaborate with engineers to understand DevOps workflows while documenting learnings, processes, and changes clearly and consistently.

Requirements

  • Assist in maintaining and improving CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions
  • Support deployment and monitoring of applications in containerized environments using Docker and Kubernetes
  • Help manage cloud infrastructure using Infrastructure as Code tools like Terraform under supervision
  • Assist with monitoring and observability using tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, ELK, or Datadog
  • Support debugging of infrastructure and deployment issues with guidance from senior engineers
  • Write simple automation scripts in Python or Bash to improve operational efficiency
  • Learn and follow security best practices for cloud and infrastructure systems
  • Collaborate with engineers to understand DevOps workflows and production systems
  • Document learnings, processes, and changes clearly and consistently

Requirements

Required Skills and Knowledge:

  • Basic understanding of DevOps concepts, CI/CD, and cloud infrastructure
  • Familiarity with Git and GitHub version control
  • Exposure to Docker containerization
  • Basic understanding of Kubernetes concepts
  • Basic scripting knowledge in Python or Bash
  • Familiarity with at least one cloud platform, preferably AWS
  • Willingness to learn monitoring, observability, and security fundamentals

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience or coursework involving Terraform or Infrastructure as Code
  • Exposure to Ansible for automation
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms like Azure or GCP
  • Knowledge of CloudFormation for infrastructure provisioning

Personal Attributes:

  • Curious, proactive, and comfortable asking questions
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced startup environment with guidance and mentorship
  • Strong willingness to learn and collaborate
  • Detail-oriented with good documentation skills

What We Offer

  • Hands-on learning with real production systems
  • Close mentorship from experienced DevOps and engineering leaders
  • Exposure to modern cloud, automation, and reliability practices
  • Opportunity for full-time conversion based on performance
  • Ownership of scoped tasks that have real impact
  • A collaborative and innovative work environment
  • Breakfast and lunch at the office
